Undoubtedly part of the fun of a holiday is to make your own plans for day trips to see things of particular interest to your own party. However the following suggestions may give you some ideas which you can combine to make a full or short day trip from Riverside Log Cabins.

The Falkirk Wheel(external link) is the world's only rotating boat lift. The lift, with its impressive reach, moves boats 115 feet, (the height of 8 double decker buses). It joins two impressive canals, the Forth and Clyde canal and the Union canals which meet here and provide a link between Scotland 's North Sea and the Atlantic coast. The visitors centre gives fascinating insights into the facts and engineering feats required to build this most attractive engineering structure.

Inverary on Loch Fyne is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Argyle and is reached by a 90 minute drive through some of Scotland most beautiful glens. Inveraray Castle is very close to the village and is open to visitors A visit there can be combined with a visit to Inveraray Jail(external link) for an insight into how our prisoners were treated. At the jail you will be met by warders and prisoners still in their Victorian clothes and can join them in making nets if you wish.

From there a short stroll takes you down to the harbour where the Maritime Museum is anchored. Then stroll on along the Loch side to one of the restaurants to sample the locally caught seafood or drive about 15 minutes along the loch to the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar , or Ardkinglas gardens. A trip to Inveraray from Riverside can be done in a circular route taking in many beautiful spots.These are only a few of the many places easily visited from Riverside Log Cabins. Oban provides the major gateway to the Scottish Islands with ferries being run by Caledonian MacBrayne(external link). Iona and Mull make interesting day trips, the latter being particularly popular with fans of "Balamory"

Superb wildlife watching boat trips from Oban(external link) including dolphins, whales, porpoise, seals, eagles, guillimots, razorbill, oyster catchers, and numerous other sea birds can be enjoyed . Trips to the Corryvrechan Whirlpool are also available

Woollen Mill Trail: Cabins -> Comrie -> Braco -> Sherriffmuir -> Bridge of Allan and the Wallace Monument -> Mill Trail to Tillicoultry -> Yetts O Muckart -> Glen Devon -> Gleneagles -> Muthill -> Blairinroar -> Comrie -> Cabins.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are also on the doorstep ,with an infinite variety of routes possible such that you can fully explore all the area has to offer.

At Braco, the earthworks of Ardoch Fort a major Roman Fort are still visible after nearly 2000 years. This is one of the best preserved military earthworks to be found anywhere in the world and some of the ramparts still stand to a height of 6 feet .It is signed just as you leave the village on the Crieff side.
