Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee

Edinburgh, Scotland 's Capital, is just 90 minutes away with its rich history. Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, the new Scottish Parliament Building , many museums and art galleries are all packed in to an easily walkable distance. It is also a shopping mecca with its wide range of shops in Princes Street and beyond. There are many theatres and in August the Edinburgh Festival is an extraordinary extravaganza of theatre, music, street performance and exhibitions.

is found in the port of Leith just 2 miles from Edinburgh city centre. This served the Royal Family for over 40 years as it traveled over one million miles to every corner of the globe. Visitor's tours cover the history with exhibition and photographs, and of course a walk through the 5 decks.

Another fascinating trip is to the Dynamic Earth Exhibition(external link) which shows and tells how the Big Bang started the universe and follows the evolution of the earth in a journey of contrasts through the oceans, polar regions and tropical rainforests. Travel the route of evolution and meet some of the winners and losers.

Energy levels may be flagging but, to round off your day, or perhaps to make a second day, a trip to the New Scottish Parliament building information centre, very close to Dynamic earth will allow you to see progress on this symbolic building, or you may wish to visit the Zoo or Botanic Gardens.

Glasgow is also well worth a visit with its renowned museums and art galleries. The National Museum of Transport is just across from Glasgow Art Galleries and is a very popular visit combined with a walk through nearby Kelvingrove Park up to the University with its Hunterian Museum .

Or visit the south side of the city and see the famous Burrell Collection and visit Rouken Glen Park.

Glasgow can boast the best shopping in Scotland in Argyle/Buchanan/Sauchiehall streets, and for a real taste of "the other Scotland " nothing beats the Sunday "Barras" which coupled with a visit to The Peoples Palace Museum will provide a real insight into the growth of Glasgow and the distinct friendliness of her people.

Glasgow has many lovely parks and the Botanic Gardens in the west end are well worth a visit. You can return to the cabins via the Erskine Bridge and Loch Lomond for a scenic end to your day out.

Dundee has a Sweet factory which you can visit and sample the wares ! It also has a very interesting jute factory museum, the Verdant Works , which tells the story of Dundee 's jute industry and its importance as a world trading centre. At the docks the Ship Discovery , which took Scott of the Antarctic on his ill fated expedition is moored. Together with another old sailing ship and an exhibition, it provides a fascinating visit.
