Longer Day Trips
From Riverside it is possible to visit a great deal of Scotland on a day trip.
Glen Coe is within an hour and Fort William can be reached within 2 hours. After admiring the Great Glen, take the ski gondola at Aanoch Mhor ( Ben Nevis ) for a truly spectacular view. You can then come back to the cabins via Connell with its bridge and wonderful tidal race to make a superb circular tour
Loch Ness (and its monster) can also easily be done in a day. On the way it is worth calling in to Aviemore and the Cairngorm mountain range where a new funicular can transport you to the top for a wonderful view. Just a short detour from Inverness is the Black Isle where at Rosemarkie dolphins are often spotted playing, and there are museums and craft shops at Crommarty.
Oban is just an hour and a half from the cabins and from there a short ferry ride can take you onto the Inner Hebrides - Mull and Iona , Lismore, Kerrera or drive across the "Bridge over the Atlantic " onto Seil isle.
St Andrews can be reached in about 90 minutes either by major roads crossing the Tay Bridge at Dundee or by very pretty country roads which typify Fife . As well as its famous Golf Course, St Andrews has a very long beautiful sandy beach, an historic Abbey and graveyard, a harbour, the Byre Theatre, a Sea Life Centre and lots of small interesting shops.
A trip to St Andrews can be combined with a visit to some of Fife 's little fishing villages such as Crail, or to the Scottish Deer Centre at Cupar.
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are also on the doorstep, with an infinite variety of routes possible such that you can fully explore all the area has to offer.
