Shorter Day Trips

A very pleasant and relaxed day can be had in a Circular Tour covering Killin, Loch Tay, Kenmore and Aberfeldy.

Turn left from the cabins and meander along Loch Earn passing through St Fillans and Lochearnhead. Turn right and follow signs for Killin. On reaching the village, stop and enjoy the Falls of Dochart . More agile members of your party may enjoy scrambling about on the rocks, while those not so agile can simply enjoy the superb view, and perhaps a visit to the clan McNab graveyard on an island in the river. Killin has good coffee shops, pubs and a selection of small shops, as well as a play park. A short walk will take you to the banks of Loch Tay.

Next proceed along the North side of Loch Tay and take a short detour left to visit Fortingall with its thatched houses. This is reputed to be the birthplace of Pontius Pilate, and has in the church yard the Fortingall Yew which is reputed to be the oldest living thing in Europe .

Return to the loch side and continue to Kenmore where boats and canoes can be hired or simply enjoy a stroll on the beach, or visit the hotel or gift shop. Just round from the village you will see The Crannog which has been recreated to illustrate the lifestyle of those living on Loch Tay in the iron age and is very well worth visiting. The golfers may care to visit Taymouth Castle Course accessed through the pillared gates in the village. ( Kenmore is the starting point of the Kenmore to Aberfeldy raft race which takes place each autumn and is an amazing spectacle and great fun).

Continue on to Aberfeldy which has a beautiful golf course, public park and an old "designer" bridge. There is also a working flour mill and a good selection of small shops as well as the Erradour Distillery. Castle Menzies is just a mile outside Aberfeldy.

From Aberfeldy drive through the Sma Glen with its wonderful hills, back to Crieff and home through Comrie to the cabin.
