Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2006 offered over 28,000 performances in 260 venues throughout the historic city of Edinburgh. With over 1,800 different shows to choose from (35% of which were World Premieres) including comedy, theatre, dance, children's shows, music festival on the Fringe and so much more, there's plenty for everyone - no matter what tickles your fancy! IN 2006 there were even 177 free shows.
Fringe 2006 officially came to a close on August 28, boasting an amazing 1.5 million tickets sold and much fun and frivolity marked the event as usual
So get thinking and planning for the Fringe 2007 - it'll be here before you know it.
To prepare for the Fringe,or the Festival itself, the tips below are useful.
- Book your accommodation early is a good plan as the population of the city doubles during the festival. Prices also increase during this time and so early bookers may do better.. - Planning your visit is important to maximize your enjoyment and with almost 2,000 shows and 250 venues a well planned trip will allow you to do so much more. The Fringe Programme is released early June, so watch their website to keep informed.
- Buy tickets in advance as popular shows sell out quickly. However bookings in 2006 were greater than ever before. The Fringe Box Office opens mid-June, so watch their website to make sure you are ahead of the crowd.
- Enjoy the Party during the Festival and Fringe, the streets of Edinburgh are absolutely full of people ready to party the night away. Most pubs and bars in Edinburgh join in the fun themselves, often staying open until 3am
- Explore Edinburgh,Scotland's capital where the geology and history are unrivalled. Visit the Scottish Parliament building, Edinburgh Castle and the Rosslyn Chapel (can you break the Da Vinci code?).
