Exhibitions

There are some super exhibitions within easy reach of Riverside . The Rob Roy exhibition in Callander is just a short drive away and on the way back you can divert into Balquhidder, along the glen where Rob Roy rode and see his grave in the churchyard there.

Stirling Jail, Stirling Castle and the Monument to William Wallace whose story was told in the film Braveheart, can all be enjoyed on a trip to Stirling which can also take in the surrounding woollen mill factory shops or a visit to Drummond Safari Park .

A really interesting visit can be made to The Crannog on Loch Tay at Kenmore . A crannog is an ancient dwelling built on stilts in the water. At Kenmore you can go onto a Crannog and learn about how our ancestors lived and try your hand at basket making and clay potting. Just near the Crannog you can hire canoes and boats to further explore Loch Tay. Then just a 10 minute drive takes you to Aberfeldy where you can visit a working flour mill or enjoy the lovely park there.

Dundee has a Sweet Factory you can visit as well as The Discovery Centre where you can walk around the Ship "Discovery" that took Captain Scott to the Antarctic and learn all about his ill fated expedition. Another old seagoing ship is also moored alongside for you to explore.

Dundee also has the Verdant Works exhibition which allows you to experience life in a factory at the time of the Industrial Revolution when Dundee traded in Jute across the world.

At Inveraray which is on Loch Fyne about 1½ hours drive to the west, you can visit Inveraray Castle or take a really interesting trip back in time and find out what it was like to be in prison in the last century by visiting Inveraray Jail. There you will meet prisoners and warders still in their Victorian clothes and be able to see the cells where prisoners were kept and try your hand at making nets like they did. Then stroll down to the pier and visit the Maritime Museum on the ship docked there. You may see The Waverly , which is the oldest working paddle steamer in the world and which regularly calls at Inveraray.
